Urban Farmer  

Yard to Fork, LLC is seeking a knowledgeable, passionate, and productive candidate to fill our full-time Urban Farmer position. This team member will utilize our organic and sustainable gardening practices to manage and maintain 20+ residential edible gardens on a bi-weekly schedule. Urban Farmers will be provided specified routes to follow each day and all the necessary garden tools while using their personal vehicle. Will work mostly independent – planting, pruning, harvesting, and engaging with clients in the field, with the support of the Yard To Fork crew. Applicant must live local in Sacramento or surrounding areas. Tools and equipment are provided. 

Job Type: Full-time

  • Starting at $23 - $30/hour (based on experience)

  • Plus, vehicle mileage and maintenance reimbursement

  • Benefits after 6 months of employment:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Farm & Garden Management

  • Manage residential gardens; design planting plans, cultivate wide variety of annual/perennial edible plants, troubleshoot pest and disease issues, amend soil, harvest produce, and repair drip irrigation systems

  • Maintain fruit trees; including fertilizing, harvesting, pruning, irrigation, and pest/disease management

  • Proactively prevent garden issues

  • Document detailed service log of bi-weekly visits

  • Collaborate with Yard to Fork team to resolve complex garden issues

Customer Service & Communication

  • Maintain good customer relationships, both in-person and email with all maintenance service clients

  • Follow communication procedures, guidelines, and expectations

  • Write detailed garden updates to email clients at the end of each day

  • Respond to customer concerns in a timely manner

  • Represent Yard to Fork in a professional manner

Other

  • Must be comfortable and willing to drive between multiple locations in greater Sacramento region every workday

  • Attend staff, service, and training meetings as required

  • Track time, mileage, and garden notes for clients

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience with annual vegetable cultivation required

  • Valid California driver’s license and comply with all state driving/transportation laws

  • Personal working vehicle required – truck preferred, but not required

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.

  • Ability to perform manual work, lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions

  • Ability to use various apps and technology, including, but not limited to clock in/out apps, Microsoft Office, and CRM.

  • Farm management experience or farmhand work is a plus

  • Ability to learn and adapt to Yard to Fork best practices

  • Ability to provide friendly and clear communication

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Must be willing and able to pass a background check

Availability:

  • Must have open availability Monday - Friday between 6am and 5pm as start and end times change seasonally

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shifts Monday - Friday with start times that fluctuate with the seasons beginning as early as 6am during warmer month and late as 9am in the colder months

Work Travel:

  • Will need to travel up to 60 miles per day on specified routes
